Battle Giga is the next game in development which I have been producing, my passion for vintage arcade video games has inspired me to create a short 5 level arcade shoot em up (SHMUP) title with a few unique game play mechanics. The story of most SHMUPS can be summarised in a paragraph, its the designers intention of creating content first and then adapt a story, the plot of Battle Giga is simple, you are playing a vision of your dreams or nightmares, it was all a dream, something along that line.
One of the aims was to develop the graphics to mimic 8 and 16 bit graphics of past generation arcade and home console yet also be high definition, vintage pixel art is great, but looks awful scaled on current high definition video screens, after searching for any example of a game with graphics of the calibre I wanted, it soon became apparent that nothing like this exisited so I had to innovate some techniques.
I would like to coin the term ” Pixel Art HD “, through many experiments and some very late nights, I came up with a filter which renders the exact look I was aiming for, once that was done, I could concentrate on the level and content design. Creating a 5 level shooter game looks simple enough until you start creating 2D high definition pixel art content. This game is still in production and will be developed in Unity 3D engine, our aim is to release this game on mobile and console as well as Apple TV.
